Fun day trip to enjoy

This is a great way to explore cities and towns between Bratislava and Prague! From the very beginning, the communication from Side Trip tours was very easy. Our guide Juraj was so nice and made the trip customized to what interested the most. We were able to explore the towns without feeling rushed. The best part is exploring towns you would not normally see if you’re limited on time during your trip. I would highly recommend this day trip to anyone traveling between Bratislava and Prague!

    Lednice Palace

    What we'll do

We’ll have the opportunity to stroll through the breathtaking gardens of Lednice Palace, one of the most beautiful and renowned landscapes in Central Europe.

As we explore this impressive UNESCO World Heritage Site, we’ll walk through elegantly landscaped gardens, charming ponds, and romantic pathways. Along the way, we’ll see highlights such as the Palm House, a historic greenhouse filled with exotic plants, and the ornamental Minaret, an unusual yet striking 60-meter-high tower offering panoramic views over the estate. The grounds also feature graceful bridges, sculptures, and hidden garden pavilions, adding to the fairy-tale atmosphere.

Lednice offers a unique blend of history, nature, and architectural beauty, making it an unforgettable experience for visitors.

    About Lednice Palace

The Lednice Palace and Gardens, as we see them today, were redesigned in the 19th century as a luxurious summer retreat for the aristocrats. The palace itself is considered one of the finest examples of English Gothic architecture on the European continent, with its ornate towers, intricate stone carvings, and grand interiors.

The Liechtenstein family, one of the richest aristocratic families in Central Europe, owned vast lands in the region. Over centuries, they expanded their holdings through wars, strategic marriages, and purchases. Their loyalty to the Habsburg dynasty brought them great influence within the Austro-Hungarian Empire, allowing them to create one of the most magnificent palace complexes in the country.

The palace itself is a masterpiece of Neo-Gothic architecture, with elegant spires, intricate carvings, and grand halls. Inside, visitors can admire lavish chandeliers, fine woodwork, and richly decorated rooms that once hosted European aristocracy. The stunning gardens and parklands surrounding the palace stretch for miles, featuring romantic pathways, ornamental bridges, and even a picturesque minaret, making it one of the most breathtaking landscapes in Europe.

Today, Lednice Palace and its grounds remain a UNESCO-listed treasure, offering visitors a glimpse into the opulence and refined lifestyle of the noble families who once lived here.

  • Stop 2: Znojmo

We’ll take a walk through the crooked lanes and hidden courtyards of Znojmo, soaking in its historic charm and quaint atmosphere.

    Znojmo

    What we'll do

Wandering through the narrow streets and crooked back alleys of Znojmo is a real treat, especially as we make our way up the hill in search of breathtaking views. Along the way, we’ll pass St. Nicholas Church, a stunning Gothic landmark, and the historic Town Hall, known for its unique tower.

From the top, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views over the river and surrounding countryside, making the climb well worth it. Our visit also comes at the perfect time for a lunch break (not included), offering a chance to relax and soak in the peaceful atmosphere.

Znojmo is a hidden gem, well off the typical tourist trail, offering a more authentic Czech experience far from the crowds. It’s a stop that surprises and delights with its charm, history, and scenic beauty.

    About Znojmo

Znojmo, with a population of around 33,000, is the second-largest city in South Moravia. Rich in history and character, the city was officially granted town rights in the 13th century, but its roots stretch back even further, having developed around a medieval fortress that once guarded this important region.

Znojmo boasts a distinctive, hilly street layout that adds to its charm and makes it a joy to explore. The elevated position not only provided a defensive advantage in centuries past but also offers incredible panoramic views of the river valley and surrounding countryside today.

Znojmo’s unique topography is matched by its architectural richness—from Gothic churches and Romanesque chapels to colorful Baroque facades and medieval alleyways. The town remains a hidden gem for travelers seeking history, charm, and scenic beauty away from the usual tourist routes.

  • Stop 3: Telč

We will walk through the UNESCO listed town of Telč, known for its colorful Renaissance houses, fairytale charm, and one of the most romantic squares in Europe.

    Telč

    What we'll do

We’ll take a walk through Telč, one of the most romantic Old Towns in Europe, known for its fairytale-like beauty. According to local legend, the townspeople once competed to build the most beautiful house on the main square—each trying to outdo the others.

The result is the stunning Town Hall Square, lined with colourful Renaissance-style houses featuring high gables and decorative facades. Each building has its own charm, creating a unique and picturesque setting that feels like stepping into a storybook.

Thanks to its remarkable architecture and historical value, the Old Town of Telč is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site—a true highlight in the Czech Republic and a delight to explore.

    About Telč

Telč is a small town in the Czech Republic with a population of around 5,000 people, best known for its storybook beauty and remarkably preserved historic center. The town was first mentioned in written records in the 14th century, and over time, it grew in importance thanks to its location along key trade routes.

The golden age of Telč was in the 17th century, when trade brought wealth and prosperity to the town. During this period, the main square was transformed, as wealthy merchants and townspeople built the now-famous colourful Renaissance houses with high gables and decorative facades. These fairytale-like buildings, perfectly lining the square, remain one of the finest examples of Renaissance urban planning in Europe.

Today, the historic center of Telč is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, attracting visitors with its unique charm, rich history, and picture-perfect architecture.

Discovery of unbeaten path from Bratislava to Prague.

Wonderful trip from Bratislava to Prague. Our driver tour guide MARTINA was a great blessing to our trip. She took us to beautiful places we only see in magazines. She is very well verse on the history & story of the places we went. We never got bored with our long road trip. Most of all she was very kind & helpful. She helped us with our hotel that was locked. She stayed with us until we were settled in. We would highly recommend her for tour guide/driver.

Fantastic day trip from Bratislava to Prague

Apparently most people do Vienna to Prague, but don't skip on Bratislava - it's well worth a visit. I've previously done a side tour from Tallinn to Riga which was excellent - so I was really keen on the side tour from Bratislava to Prague. The tour was amazing - totally because of our extremely knowledgeable and fun guide, Alex. Thank you Alex for sharing the history and background of Slovakia and Czechia and moreover giving us an insight into how it feels to live there. We did a private tour so could customize it to our needs, but the regular tour stops are great: Lednice Palace (great history of the Liechtenstein family and beautiful walk around the grounds); Znojmo (idyllic hilly town with a lovely cafe serving great food); Telč ( a fairy tale town). Communication was excellent, pick up on time and all very smooth. 5* for our guide!
