I have never loved a tour more

I absolutely loved this tour. The one way idea is brilliant and our tour guide Levente was the best. He told fabulous stories about the places we visited and was so informative. I learnt so much on this tour and my teenage son enjoyed the whole trip as well. One of our stops was Walhalla and definitely the highlight of the trip. Stunning. I wish I had taken the same tour from Vienna to Prague as well. Well done Side trip tours this was amazing.

What we'll do

During the tour we walk up the hill to Karlštejn Castle ’s courtyard. The castle is built on top of a steep hill and hidden from sight as you approach it until it suddenly towers high above you. There is also a little village that surrounds the hill, you’ll walk through it as you climb up towards the castle. The main road up to the castle is lined with little shops and cafes giving a great chance to make small stops on your way. From the top of the hill you’ll have great views to the surrounding area.

About Karlštejn Castle
Karlštejn Castle was built by the Czech king and Holy Roman emperor Charles IV as a place to store the royal treasures, collections of holy relics, and the crown jewels. Built in the 14th century Karlštejn Castle is one of the most important and famous castles in Czech Republic. Entering the castle’s courtyard is like stepping back in time.

During the tour we visit the Brewery Museum to learn more about the making of beer and why it is so important for Czechs. Pilsen city also has a charming Old Town with the beautiful St Bartholomew Cathedral , Town Hall , and the stunning Great Synagogue that you will see as we walk around in Pilsen. You will have a chance to taste Pilsner Urquell , the world famous beer during lunch (not included).

About Pilsen
Pilsen is Czech Republic’s fourth largest city with a population of about 170 000 people. Growing around a castle, Pilsen becomes a city in the 13th century. The city grows in importance in the 19th century when many important industries are founded here during industrialization of the Austria-Hungarian Empire. Most famous of them is Škoda Works. Today Pilsen’s fame comes from its beer - Pilsner Urquell, its brewery was also founded in the 19th century.

We will walk through Regensburg’s charming Old Town and take a look at its famous St Peter’s Cathedral . As you wander around the city you can sense the history surrounding you. We cross the Stone Bridge - medieval bridge that for a long time was the only way to cross the Danube here. Everywhere you turn you will find beautiful views of the Regensburg Old Town.

About Regensburg
Regensburg is in a very strategic location. Here three rivers meet - the Danube, Naab, and Regen. Before modern times crossing big rivers was a complicated matter. In the 12th century a stone bridge was built across the Danube in Regensburg. This made the city even more important bringing wealth through trade. Luckily the Old Town took little damage in the Second World War and is today under UNESCO World Heritage protection.

Truly one of the best parts of our entire vacation

We really can’t say enough about how wonderful our experience with Sidetrip was. The driving was safe and comfortable, the stops we made were beautiful and interesting, the conversations with our driver were delightful. My parents are heading to the area in a few months and we’ve already told them they should book this same trip.

Phenominal way to get from one place to another

Rather than just take a train from Prague to Munich, I decided to hire Sidetrip to take my family of 4 and do some sightseeing along the way. Sylvia showed up in a newer highend van that had room for all four of us and our 5 big bags. We found her extremely knowledgable about the country and the places we stopped at. We got to stop and see a castle at Karlstein, a brewery museum at Pilsner, and the classic town of Regensburg. Finally, she went above and beyond when she coordinated the pickup and delivery of a passport we left in Prague that we only discovered when we got to Munich. Highly recommend!!!

Money and Time WELL SPENT

Our driver/tour guide's name was Peter and he did not disappoint our "mature' party of 4! We were two couples aged 56-76 and Peter managed to keep us all interested and invested in the sights and the conversation. We stopped for a little sight seeing in Pilsen and lunch in Regensburg. Peter choses a delightful little spot with great food and beer. The best part was we could tailor our trip and it worked out great! Highly recommend!

Is this a one-way tour?

Yes, this is a one-way tour ending in Munich. Please note that the tour does not take you back to Prague.
How long is this tour?

The planned duration of this tour is 10 hours. For the safety of our passengers and drivers, we are unable to accommodate requests to extend this duration.
Do you offer hotel pick-up/drop-off?

Hotel pick-up and drop-off are only available when booking this tour as a private tour for a single group. Open group tours have a fixed meeting point and drop-off location.
Can I take my luggage with me?
Yes! We have space for luggage, similar to common airline baggage allowances. There is no extra charge for luggage that meets these criteria:
- One item of airline carry-on size: maximum size of 55 x 40 x 23cm (22 x 14 x 9in)
- One item of airline checked size: maximum size of 80 x 50 x 30cm (32 x 20 x 12in), weighing less than 23 kg (50lbs)
- One personal item: maximum size of 15 x 15 x 10 cm (6 x 6 x 4in)

Is lunch included in the tour price?

Lunch is not included in the tour price but a lunch break is scheduled in Pilsen. Kindly let our tour leader know if you have any special dietary needs that we should take in account.
Is this tour suitable for senior citizens?

Yes! With a maximum of 8 people in each group, our guide can make sure that the pace of the tour is suitable for everyone. Just note that the tour does include some walking at the stops.
What is your cancellation policy?

If you cancel more than 48 hours before the tour, your booking is fully refunded*. If you cancel less than 48 hours before the tour or in the case of a no-show, no refund is issued.
